Well, it is awards season after all.........

Wow.  I'm humbled to say the least.   I've been given an award from Jen at Noting Grace.  Truly.. "I'm NOT WORTHY" but thank you from the depths of my soul.

Now to come up with 7 things about me that you don't already know may prove to be an impossibility.  
1.     I adore, ADORE Winnie The Pooh.  Classic of course.  I have a tattoo of him on my lower back.  Eeyore is actually my FAVORITE of the Pooh characters because, yanno, we're so alike.
2.     Pasta, bread, pasta, bread, pasta, bread.  'Nuf said.
3.     I really, really, really, really, really (and this is a BIG SECRET y'all) wish I knew how to sing.  Which is kind of ironic given the person who gave me this award is a massive talent in this department.   I mean, I think I could give Holly Holiday (AKA Gwenyth Paltrow) a run for her money on Glee.  **IF** I knew how to sing.  Just sayin'
4.     There are a few, I said A FEW Taylor Swift songs that I actually ((((gulp)))) like.  Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
5.     When people don't text me back, it makes my blood pressure RISE.  I mean, it's a TEXT people. I KNOW you have your phone on you 24/7 so don't even PLAY like you didn't get it.  It will take you 4 seconds to respond.  JUST RESPOND and say you don't have time to respond.  REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
6.     I **MUST** get back to the ocean and I feel it **MUST** be soon.  Something about the ocean fills my soul.
7.     I've been through a lot in my life, but bar none, year 37 was my hardest.  I'm glad it's over and am hopeful that year 38 brings happier, more peaceful times.

Broken hearts.  It's such a cliche'.  No topic has received more attention in the history of the world.  More books, sonnets, songs, movies, plays etc etc etc ad nauseam have been written about broken hearts than any other topic.  Country music exists because of broken hearts.  Taylor Swift's career exists because of her broken heart (more power to ya, sister).  NOTHING HURTS MORE THAN A BROKEN HEART. Shameless self promotion

Well, in case you haven't figured it out, I do a lot of work with Autism Speaks and the TN Walk Now for Autism . I've mentioned before why I feel it's so important to raise awareness but... I'm going to say it again. This week a group of high school kids asked Autism Speaks to send someone out to talk to them about autism. How cool, right? They wanted to learn more! And my "more," I mean, "at all." Of the 42 kids in that room with me, ONE of them even knew what autism was. Newsflash: 1 in 150 kids are being diagnosed with autism in the United States. In the UK it's estimated that the numbers are more like 1 in 67. We need, *NEED* to educate the masses. So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to teach these kids about autism and what it looks like and I encouraged them to go tell 10 people about what we talked about and make the information viral. "This book"

I know, I know, I know. The topic this month is, "believe." I get it. I've been talking about "believing in yourself," but yanno what? Sometimes it's kinda hard. I get that. On a night like tonight, I get that more than anyone. Here's the thing. It's sort of a dirty little secret. But I'm about to let the cat out of the bag. A year ago, I wrote a book. Yep, I, me, April Schmidt wrote a book. Guess what it's about? Come on, guess........ it's going to be shocking. A little boy with autism. It's a children's book. A picture book, in fact. And here's the story of how it came to be. About a year ago, Luke and I were having a really bad day. Sometimes we have those.
