The heart of the matter

Since the dawn of time, nothing has inspired more writing than a good breakup.   Romeo and Juliet was kind of a doozy (talk about a break up gone wrong).  Don't even get me started with music.  I mean, would country music even exist without breakups?  Would Taylor Swift's musical career?  I digress. My point is, I've been doing a lot of writing and it's been coming from a place of great hurt and devastation. This morning at church my good friend Scott prayed over me and he took my hands and he looked me square in the eyes and said, "You don't have time for this distraction.  And that's all it is.  A distraction. Let it go."  Then I came home and  called my dad.  But first I cried and snotted all over Scott.  I think after all these weeks I need to buy him a new shirt.   Oh this topic could be a blog in and of itself.  You see Bernie (yup, real name) knew about David all along.  He saw it within the first fi...

Doorways, repeat, Doorways.

I know!  Let's talk about doorways! Opening, closing, swinging, hitting you in face, getting bolted shut.  You know the drill. Here's a dirty little secret that's actually not a secret.  I SUCK at  following my own advice.  I suck at even listening to myself.  Oh I listen alright, but to the "other" voices in my head.  The ones that tell me I'm worthless, not enough, a failure, have been rejected and so on. Anyone else familiar with this? How many of you out there struggle with doing something you KNOW you MUST do... and yet you don't.  You can't.  You won't. Things that are essential to your very survival.  And yet you still can't.  It's a little like an addiction, don't you think? You know with absolute certainty that smoking will kill you and yet you still light up. You know that if you lose that money you can't make your house payment and yet you lay it on the table anyway.  You know that your cholesterol is ...

Sisterhood of the Supermoon and other tales of letting go and daring greatly

Wait for it........ wait for it.......... I'm about to refer to an author in this blog that is not   Elizabeth Gilbert. I'll give you a moment to catch your breath. But much like Eat, Pray, Love and Elizabeth Gilbert, I'm the last on the bandwagon for this one too.  I'm starting to think that maybe I'm the last to know because I don't watch Oprah .  Damn her. The funny thing is though, that if you read my last post about my new tattoo and the word, "Enough" I think I'm going to  go ahead and call myself cool because I got on the "Enough" bandwagon before I even knew I was supposed to.  I went so far as to have it tattooed on my body. You know, before Brene' Brown told me to.   Many of you are familiar with Brene' Brown and her work on vulnerability and her book, Daring Greatly.  You are probably even more familiar with her TedX talk which is one of the most viewed Ted's of all time.  This is what launched Brene...

Hard doors and.............free stuff?

Continuing on my Eat, Pray, Love madness... I watched the movie again last week. I know, I know everyone reads the book (any book in fact) and the movie is never as good. I'll just say that Eat, Pray, Love the movie was different from the book and leave it at that. OK I can't leave it at that. I just can't stop thinking, "I'm watching Julia Roberts!" because she's just THAT BIG of a star that I find it hard to look past. Not sure if that makes sense. Because when I watch Tom Hanks I see the character he's playing so maybe I'm really speaking more on the acting ability of Julia. Not sure. But I digress. As usual. I saw the movie first in the theater and there was a quote which was NOT in the book that hit me like a TON OF BRICKS. Literally. As in, for the REST of the movie I was trying to sit there and come up with the EXACT QUOTE because I wanted to keep it with me. I lost it. So I googled it. Nope. Couldn't find it. Even poste...

Letting go

Sometimes I think that the hardest thing in life is letting go. When you are a child you have a favorite toy/doll/blanket and at some point, your parents force you to let it go. When we’re kids we have no idea why, and truthfully our parents can’t even really reason with us why it’s necessary. But the good thing is, that toy/doll/blanket is just tucked away somewhere. We can still peek at it once in awhile, even hold it up to our nose and inhale that deep sweet smell of sweat and tears and grime and love. Sure we have to put it back again, but the security of knowing it’s there is sometimes good enough. So even though we’ve let it go what we’ve REALLY done, is just learn to live without it. This is why death is so difficult. You are forced, usually unexpectedly, to let go of someone that is very dear to you. And there’s no looking back. You just….. let go. And it’s over. I’ve been married for 11 years but once upon a time I dated a boy that I loved with every fiber of my being. We spen...
